DeadlineDescription
The McKeon Scholarship provides financial assistance for college in any state to residents of downstate Illinois who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT), allies, or children of LGBT parents attending or planning to attend a postsecondary institution. Students who participate in political advocacy, community service, or extracurricular activities are encouraged to apply. The 2026 application window is open until September 25, 2026. Applicants must have a permanent residence within the Acorn Equality Fund (AEF) service area of downstate Illinois (all Illinois counties except Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will) and must attend — or plan to attend — any accredited post‑secondary educational institution. Award amounts vary based on available donations, but typically range from $2,000 to $5,000. The McKeon Scholarship recognizes academics, volunteerism, and political advocacy. Recipients are notified in early November, and awards are presented at the Family Breakfast event in December.
